Randolph-Macon Academy will hold its graduation ceremony on Saturday, May 26th, at 10:00 a.m. in Melton Memorial Gymnasium. The Academy will welcome Robert R. Lindgren, President of Randolph-Macon College, as the commencement speaker.
Lindgren has been the president of R-MC since 2006. During his tenure, new student enrollment has increased 25%, and the college has invested nearly $80 million in major renovations and new construction over the last six years. Lindgren’s previous position was as the Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations at the Johns Hopkins Institutions in Baltimore. He holds a law degree from the University of Florida and a master of philosophy degree in management studies from Oxford University in England.
While the commencement ceremony is the culmination of graduation week, the Randolph-Macon Academy family will spend several days earlier that week celebrating the seniors. On Thursday, May 24th, the Athletic Social will recognize the senior athletes and award-winners (MVP, Most Improved, and Coaches’ Award) from this school year. Later that evening, students, family members, and the R-MA staff and faculty will gather to witness the presentation of the Academy’s highest awards, including the “Best All-Around Cadet” award.
On Friday, May 25th, the Baccalaureate Service will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Boggs Chapel. The seniors and their families will then move to the Senior Luncheon at 11:30 a.m., to share memories and stories. At 2:00 p.m., VA-091 Air Force Junior ROTC will hold its final parade of the year on Riddick Field, with the iconic hat toss to signify the seniors’ completion of the JROTC program.
The Class of 2018 consists of 68 seniors and seven Falcon Scholars. Every senior received at least one college acceptance, for a total of 230 college acceptances to 139 different colleges. Overall, the seniors have been offered more than $6.2 million in college scholarships. All seven Falcon Scholars received an Air Force Academy appointment.
