Starting Boarding School: 12 Things to Bring to the Dorm

This is the first of a series on preparing these last few weeks before you arrive at your boarding school, wherever that might be.

I surveyed our dorm supervisors, director of residential life, and our commandant and asked them to give their suggestions on what boarding school students should bring to the dorm. Some of these are specific to R-MA, and I’ll try to note them.

Every year or so we survey our parents to determine why they were looking for a private school in the first place. I like playing around with stats (once in a while, mind you, not all the time) so I thought I’d share a few of the top reasons with you.

For today, I just want to focus on middle school’s numbers. We had 72 students enroll at the start of last year, and 28 families responded to the survey, for a 39% response rate.

R-MA Instructor Completes "Space" Training

Randolph-Macon Academy Aerospace Instructor Stephen Pederson attended “Space Medicine and Human Factors Workshop,” a program developed by “Teachers in Space” in cooperation with NASA and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, from July 11-15, 2011. Teachers were selected through a competitive application process, and the workshop was free of charge. The program was held in Daytona Beach, FL.
