Mr. Edwin Richards is Director of Music and Bandmaster of the Randolph-Macon Academy Marching and Concert Band. Mr. Richards has been a member of the faculty since September 1978. He teaches Band in the Upper School and Band, Beginning Woodwinds, Brass and Percussion in the Middle School, and he co-ordinates the private lessons program. In addition to his duties at the Academy, Mr. Richards is a founder and Co-Director of the Front Royal-Warren County American Legion Community Band and Treasurer of the National Military School Band Association. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music and a Master of Music Education Degree from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University.
   
Mr. George Amos is Choirmaster and Director of Church Music. He joined the faculty in September 1993. He directs the Academy Chorus and the Chapel Choir, assists with the band in the Upper School, and teaches Chorus, Hand bells and Beginning Brass in the Middle School. Mr. Amos also coaches volleyball and girls basketball and is Assistant Athletic Director. In addition to his duties at the Academy, Mr. Amos is the Musical Director of the Front Royal Oratorio Society and Assistant Choir Director at Braddock Street United Methodist Church in Winchester, Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education Degree and a Master of Music Degree (Conducting) from Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University.
   
Mr. Rayford Sowell is Accompanist for the Randolph-Macon Academy Chorus and Chapel Organist. He joined the faculty in September 1980.  He has performed for over 40 years as a church musician and accompanist on the organ and piano.  Mr. Sowell teaches French and served for twenty-four years as Chairman of the Foreign Language Department.  He holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Music from Mars Hill College, a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Wake Forest University, a Bachelor of Church Music Degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and Master of Education Degree from Lynchburg College.
   
Mrs. Jo Ellen Covell joined the faculty as Piano Instructor and Accompanist for the Randolph-Macon Academy Chorus in September 1994. In addition to her duties at R-MA, Mrs. Covell is a pianist for the Fellowship Bible Church in Winchester, Virginia and has taught music privately for over 10 years. Mrs. Covell holds an Associate of Arts Degree in Music from Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona.
   
Mr. Edward St. John joined the faculty as Woodwind Instructor in October 1996. He teaches private lessons on flute, clarinet and saxophone. In addition to his duties at R-MA, he teaches woodwinds privately in the Front Royal area and for Cramer's Music in Manassas, Virginia.  He has performed professionally on the saxophone for over 15 years. Currently, he performs with the Intrepid Jazz trio. Mr. St. John has studied music with several very famous studio musicians in New York City.
   
Mr. Michael Powell joined the faculty as Guitar Instructor in January 2002.  He teaches lessons on guitar and bass guitar. Mr. Powell's collegiate experience includes studies at Lord Fairfax Community College and at Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University, where he studied both jazz guitar and classical guitar in the Commercial Music Degree program. He has seriously studied guitar for over nine years. Mr. Powell's musical experience also includes working in sales at Barry's Music and operating Green Room Recording Studio (http://www.greenroomrecording.com), his own 32-track digital recording studio.
   
Mrs. Doria St. John joined the faculty as Voice and Piano Instructor in September 2000. She is a graduate of Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ with a Bachelors Degree in Music Education. She studied voice at Westminster with Judith Nicosia, a very prominent vocal instructor in the New York area. At Westminster, she was a member of the traveling choir, and she sang under Seiji Oszawa at the Lincoln Center and Pierre Boulez at the Kennedy Center. She has studied piano with Karen Walker at Shenandoah Conservatory of Shenandoah University.
   
Mr. Bruce Barnett joined the faculty as Percussion Instructor in January 2003.  With over twenty-eight years experience, he is proficient playing many different styles of music including jazz, country and rock, as well as traditional concert and marching band literature.  He is Principal Percussionist for the Front Royal-Warren County American Legion Community Band, drummer for the Jazz “Big Band,” Yesterday, and performs regularly for his church.  Mr. Barnett stresses fundamentals in his lessons, yet is flexible helping students to achieve their musical goals.
