Czarda.jpgYoung people come through Randolph-Macon Academy’s doors for many different reasons. Some want to enhance their level of education, some require more structure in their academics, and some want to be a part of a decorated Air Force Junior ROTC program. Regardless of their reason for choosing to attend R-MA, they receive all of these benefits that forge a well-rounded person, even under tragic circumstances.

Each year, the R-MA English Department announces a book known as the “Common Reader.” While summer reading is assigned by grade level, the Common Reader is for everyone and anyone, from sixth grade students to seniors, from students to faculty and staff. The selections have included bestsellers such as The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot and Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand.

On June 1, 2017, 28 eighth graders—along with their families, friends, and Randolph-Macon Academy staff and faculty—gathered at Boggs Chapel in eager anticipation of the Middle School Promotion Ceremony. This year provided a special treat, as R-MA graduate Stephen Czarda, Class of 2009, returned to speak to the R-MA Class of 2021.
