For Celeste Brooks, R-MA has been a family affair. She and her husband, Kevin, began working at the Academy in 1999, she as the Associate Director of Admissions and he as the Student Services Coordinator. Their son, Michael, would often join them at R-MA after his day in kindergarten was over, hanging out in the offices playing or doing homework.

While Mr. Brooks moved on (he now works at George Mason University) and Michael graduated and went on to Virginia Tech, Mrs. Brooks remained at R-MA, becoming the Director of Public Relations in August of 2002. In this position, she is responsible for the majority of the communications work at R-MA, including the advertising, website, many of the publications, videos, press releases, and social media.

Mrs. Brooks' early career included working as a technical editor at IBM and a civilian public affairs officer at Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts. Once she came to R-MA, however, she felt as if she had found her calling.

"I love coming to work," she said. "I have a lot of variety in my day-to-day tasks, so no two days are the same, and I love that. The students are amazing and our teachers are just so impressive. I'm blessed with a great team of people that make it possible to succeed here. Plus I get to be a part of an institution that is built on beliefs that are important to me--we don't just educate students, we help them mature into young men and women their parents are proud of. To be part of R-MA is to be part of a family that is making a difference in the world. It's just special."

Mrs. Brooks has served on several local community boards, including the Downtown Business Association, which later became Downtown Front Royal, and the Front Royal Police Foundation. She is currently a member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army. She has also taught children's and adults' classes at Riverton United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Brooks enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband Kevin, their son Michael, and their daughter Jessalyn, who began the sixth grade at R-MA Middle School in the fall of 2014 after attending two summer camps there. While cleaning the house, tending to their large yard, and caring for their Chow/Lab mix, two cats, three hermit crabs and the beta fish takes up most of her time outside of work, Mrs. Brooks also enjoys doing puzzles, watching TV, reading fiction, long walks, or writing some fiction of her own.
